dc.description.abstract It is evident that each field and each specialty has its own language and terminology which characterizes it. The Language for Specific Purposes is a worthwhile subject of research for a legal translator since he/she must know about the characteristics of the legalese of both the target language and the source language. Yet, this does not deny the fact that the translator must be aware of the cognitive and extensive knowledge of the two legal systems mapping the two languages. Indeed, the translation of Law is by no means a simple task; it requires accuracy, background and a high sense of observation. The history of legal translation traced back to Greco-Roman ancient times. Moreover, the occurrence of the new global standards after the World War II and the foundation of the international law that rules and governs states and people around the globe seem to have significant contribution to enrich legal translation enterprise. The present research offers an analytical and critical perspective of translation. It addresses international law translators in general and the challenges encountered by UN translators in particular. This work casts the light on the different procedures required to ensure better translation of texts from English to Arabic on the terminological, morphological and stylistic levels. To this end, texts of United Nations Charter would be taken as a starting point to develop a work plan surround the question: does the legal translator succeed to convey the principles and purposes of UN charter into Arabic respecting the syntagmatic and paradigmatic axis of this language? The choice of the topic has been enhanced by the sociopolitical context of the Arab world since the 2011 and the important position occupied by the UN in the Arab Spring. In this respect, we are interested to show the role of the UN translator and his/her feeling and challenges when translating texts that do not serve the Arabic community.
