The topic of teaching translation as a tool for teaching and learning foreign languages is one of the topics of concern to many specialists in foreign language education. Most of them are familiar with the curricula that have alternated in teaching foreign languages and what the status of translation has become during those stages. The subject of our study aims to answer a range of questions such as: What is the position and role of the translation subject in foreign language departments' programs? Is it taught as a target in itself? Or as a way of learning the language? What methods, approaches and exercises are best suited to teach it? What language and translation competencies are a bachelor's course supposed to develop for English students in particular? Based on the descriptive-evaluative approach, we have analyzed questionnaires addressed to students and professors, as well as mistakes made by students during the translation exam from Arabic to English. It shows us how important the translation course is in language learning, and how effective the process of classifying and analyzing errors is in the process of detecting the learner's linguistic and translation weaknesses. In addition to the possibility of visualizing a proposal that includes the most important applications and exercises that can be programmed in the translation module of the English Department, so that it becomes purposeful and accurate, aiming to build specific competencies in language and translation.
