This work belongs to our research program on the Algerian medicinal plants of the Genus Santolina (Compositae) The purpose of this study which concerns the phytochimical investigation of Santolina chamaecyparissus L. was the isolation of secondary metabolites of sesquiterpene lactones and flavonoids types. These two classes of natural substances are known to be well accumulated by the species of Compositae family. Hydroethanolic maceration, filtration, concentration and successive extractions with chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol of 2500 g of flowers and leaves of S. chamaecyparissus L., led to 9.25 g of chloroform and 15 g of ethyl acetate extracts. The ethyl acetate extract was submitted to a silica gel column chromatography to obtain several fractions. The purification of five from which, performed on preparatives plates of silica gel gave four pure compounds. The structures were established by the combination of the results of modern analysis methods which led to three flavonoids and a new polyacetylenic glucoside. Ø 5,7,4’-trihydroxy-3’-methoxy-3-O-glucosylflavone (Isorhamnetin3-glucoside)
Ø 5,7,3’,4’- tetrahydroxyflavone (luteolin) Ø Luteolin 7-glucoside Ø trideca-7,9,11-triyne-1-ol, 4-glucoside. This compound was new and described for the first time.
