Résumé:
Our study aims at determining the capacity of the students in their final years, at the
Algerian universities to cope with scientific and technical information, and at
observing the difference in the influence in the length of the period of studies, between
the two different kinds of training: Licence, and DEUA (Diplome d’Etudes
Universitaires Appliqués) through a survey led at the University Center of El-Oued.
We defined the scientific and technical information, its necessity, and the
hindrances faced by the users that we defined, and classified into categories according
to different criteria clarifying students’ position toward them.
Then, we dealt with the university studies in general, and in Algeria specifically and
the reality of scientific and technical information in the Algerian universities: its units,
users, and, the training methods applied.
We also defined the ability to cope with information, and explained its different
aspects relying on the survey: on the capacity of comprehension, evaluation and
creativity while using the information. Next, we underlined, on the one hand, the
fa
ctors that influence the acquisition and the development of this capacity by students,
and on the other hand, the level of complexity in coping with information.
After achieving the survey, and analyzing the data obtained, we found that the
hypotheses were not confirmed. The study showed that the students’ capacity to cope
with the information is insufficient as they find difficulties in mastering the different
aspects of this capacity. This is true for the students of both kinds of study (Licence
and DEUA).
There was no difference in this capacity between the students of both kinds inspite
of the difference in the length of training and in the programmes applied.
