This work was devoted to the phytochemical and biological studies of two plants species
belonging to the Asteraceae family (Chrysanthemum segetum L.) and Plumbaginaceae family (Limonium pruinosum L.).
The phytochemical study of the chloroform extract, of aerial parts of Crysanthemum segetum has allowed us to isolate and identify seven compounds, three polyacetylenes, a flavonoid, two sterols and an aromatic ester. Six of them were isolated for the first time from this species.
Analysis of ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts of Chrysanthemum segetum by the UHPLCMS technique enabled us to propose the molecular structures of twenty-seven phenolic compounds present in these extracts, the major part of these compounds are flavonoids and coumarins.
In the phytochemical study of ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts of Limonium pruinosum
species, five compounds were identified: two flavonoids, an aromatic ester, a cyclitol and a
methylglucoside. These compounds have been described for the first time in this species.
The structures of the compounds have been elucidated mainly by the use of spectroscopic
techniques, NMR 1-D and 2-D, UV-Vis, mass spectrometry and comparison with literature
data.
In the biological part of our work, the antioxidant capacity of ethyl acetate extract and the
flavonoids isolated of Limonium pruinosum species was evaluated in vitro by DPPH test, the ethyl acetate extract showed an interesting antioxidant activity compared to standard.
The antioxidant activities of crude extracts of Chrysanthemum segetum species were
evaluated by using two methods, DPPH radical scavenging activity and the CUPRAC
method, the results showed that the ethyl acetate extract had the highest activity compared to the other extracts tested.
