Abstract:
In all regions of the world, the history of peoples shows that plants have always 
occupied an important place in medicine, in the composition of perfumes and in culinary 
preparations. The carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.) is a tree belonging to the Fabaceae family, 
is one of the important crops typically Mediterranean, and is found in its natural state 
throughout Algeria. It characterized by ecological and industrial importance. This work aims 
to present the biological activities of the carob tree, in order to enhance its exploitation. The 
use of derivatives of Ceratonia siliqua L. in traditional and modern medicine has been the 
subject of several studies. Indeed, all parts of this plant have medicinal and therapeutic 
virtues, very interesting given the pharmacological activities of the phytochemicals present in 
the biological extracts of the plant. Carob has outstanding antioxidant capacity along with 
other important medicinal activities; they have several interesting biological activities. The 
carob tree is considered an essential source of molecules for the manufacture of new drugs
