Résumé:
It is now recognized that among the chief characteristics of today’s world
is the tendency towards cooperation and coalition in all aspects of life; the main
aim is the achievement of financial gain for providing co-investments in terms of
both potentialities and resources. Cooperation and coalition work have become a
pressing claim in the sectors of libraries and information because of the great
amount of publications and the explosion of information both printed and
electronic. In addition, there are diverse and complex needs of beneficiaries with,
in contrast, the shortage of budgets that are allocated to libraries, which make
libraries unable to supply the required expected services.
In order to face the lack of knowledge about all that is published and to
facilitate the access to information, coalition and cooperation have become an
essential aspect in library work and organization. This improves services, realizes
the users’ objectives throughout several corporations and makes the university
more active with a variety of institutions in the society of information.
The consortium MEDA TEMPUS that has been established thanks to ten
information institutions in the Center and East of Algeria, under foreign
partnerships, is meant to create a regional network that is based on the creation of
one unified catalogue by these libraries; this will enable them to use the same
catalogue, facilitate inter-library loan of references to put them at the reach of a
larger public. It will improve the service, simplify the access to references and
establish a flexible policy for diffusion of scientific and technical information
throughout Algerian institutions.
This study has dealt with all the aspects of the project. A special focus has
been put on the various measures taken, as how the project is implemented, its
practical realization and its influence on the different information tasks in the
corporation. We also intend to show the role of the project in stimulating
cooperation between university libraries belonging to the consortium
Despite the modest results achieved, this project is yet very ambitious and
needs to be encouraged, as it enhances team work and coordinating efforts to
achieve the planned objectives. It, in fact, participates in the progress of the
information sector in Algeria.
