Résumé:
The public library is a cultural institution, which has an
important mission in the life of people. Integrated in the local life,
recognised as basic and essential service, inserted in a large
network of communication, and cultural exchange, the public
libraries affirm a threefold role : a cultural, pedagogic, and social
medium for all the society without distinction.
This dissertation is devoted to dig deeper to explore the state
of public libraries in Algeria, throughout a survey within public
libraries in wilaya of skikda.
This study is constituted of two parts : the first one, through
three chapters, deals with the methodological an theoretical aspects
of the topic. Whereas the second part, which contains three chapters
too, attempts to identify and analyse the actual situation of public
libraries in Algeria, and especially at the wilaya of skikda. It
propose too, a number of factors which must been assured for the
development of public libraries in Algeria.
The study conclude that the situation of public libraries in
Algeria require more attention and care from different actors of the
society, through a legislation that assure for the public library the
conditions of establishment and development.
