Abstract

This research is focused on the phytochemical investigation of aerial parts of two plants Silene gallica and Salvia argentea var. aurasiaca, belonging to the families aryophyllaceae and Lamiaceae, respectively. The phytochemical study of these species led to the isolation and identification of eleven saponosids from Silene gallica and ten triterpenes from Salvia argentea var. aurasiaca five of which correspond to new structures. The structural determination of the isolated compounds was established by the use of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques (1H, 13C, COSY, HSQC, HMBC and ROESY), by mass spectrometry (ESI-MS and HR-ESI-MS) and by comparison with the literature data. Triterpenes isolated from Salvia argentea var. aurasiaca were evaluated for their antibacterial and cytotoxic activities. The results showed that only two triterpenes have an antibacterial effect againt tested strains with MIC values ranged between 62.5 μg/mL and 125 μg/mL. Five triterpenes exhibited a moderate cytotoxicity activity against HT1080 and K562.
