dc.description.abstract "The major concern of conceptions in civil engineering is to deliver reliable structures (secured) and made with the least possible cost (economy). Furthermore, the development of new materials such as concrete sand necessitates conceptions and an increased knowledge of the material as a material to compare with ordinary concrete and metal frame and also requires further study when it is used as structural element (presence of reinforcement). Three structural elements having the same plastic moment, Mp, submitted to the same load and with the same support conditions have the same theoretical collapse load. The fact that the range of profiles in metal frame is made in factory, and that their plastic modules and of this fact their plastic moments are directly given, and tabulated, it is possible to characterize usual sections of ORC* and RSC* having the same plastic moment as that of the range of different profiles ‘IPE’, hence the same theoretical collapse load. The Characterization can be facilitated by the development of charts at three entries. Linking graphically the reduced moment, Mu/bd² and the rate of reinforcement in tension, ρ, and in compression, ρ', by using the characteristics of the materials adopted by the Eurocode 2 [1], and the British code CP110 [3]. A comparison between the charts developed as well as results obtained by the characterization for different values of the parameters (fck, fyk, ORC*/RSC* EC2/CP110) is also presented."
