This work presents a contribution to the study of wet magnetic separation problems. It concerns the computation of the behavior of a random dispersion of particles of different natures and forms. To take into account the random evolution of the present phenomena (magnetic, hydraulic and particle dynamic problem) a 3D numerical finite element resolution has been achieved. For this, we have used the multiphysic COMSOL software. To compute the particle trajectories we have applied the numerical Range-Kutta method. The treatment of static and flowing liquids has shown that a successful separation of ferromagnetic, conducting and charged particles may be achieved by applying a dynamic magnetic field. The ferromagnetic particles are captured by the electromagnet but the conducting and charged particles are repulsed away from the electromagnet. The analysis of the obtained results has
shown that the liquid flow has an important effect on the separation process. The optimization of the separator can lead to the confinement of the conducting and charged particles in a desired location for their collection. |
