dc.description.abstract To achieve reliable communication between the satellite and ground stations, attitude control system is required to give the satellite a stable attitude. It was further investigated how to control the attitude, such that the satellite was globally asymptotically stable in the desired orientation, avoiding the undesired equilibria. Tree controllers, are applied to the system of equations describing the motion of the satellite. The synchronization of satellites attitude systems is handled in the second part of the thesis. The synchronization problem consists of designing feedback interconnections from the drive satellite to the response, in such a way that the response system synchronizes its orientation with that of the drive system. A reference trajectory for the response satellite will therefore also depend on the states of the drive satellite. For many applications of formations of satellites the objective will be to point measuring instruments in the same direction. In this work three controllers are proposed to release the synchronization, and proved stable. The main contribution of this work was to show that control and synchronization can be achieved with the tree controller mentioned above. The detailed simulation results showed convincing performance. The key results have also been published in international papers.
