dc.description.abstract A collection of 81 isolates was obtained from fodder plant Hedysarum pallidum Desf. (Desfontaine) nodules growing in six geobioclimatic sites in Algeria. A preliminary characterization of the isolates underwenting phenotypic and symbiotic tests. The amplification of transcribed intergenic regions 16S-23S (ITS) and the partial 16Sr DNA gene sequencing allowing the assignment of representative isolates to the class of Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria and the phylum of Firmicutes, which indicates a high bacterial diversity associated with Hedysarum pallidum nodules. Interestingly, this study reported for the first time the isolation of culturable rhizobiums nodulating Hedysarum pallidum. Moreover, Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) highlighted the predominance of the non-culturable species Mesorhizobium camelthorni at all tested sites.
