Abstract:
The Asteraceae family is rich of flavonoids, particularly aglycones and methoxylated. In agreement with this characteristic, our works of extraction and isolation of flavonoids of Santolina rosmarinifolia L. specie (Asteraceae), collected from Batna, led to 3 methoxylated
aglycone flavones, eupatilin, jaceosidin and salvigenin together with luteolin and a flavonol, quercetin and 7-O-glugoside derivatives of the latters.
The butanolic extract showed an excellent antioxidant activity by the use of the DPPH.
In another hand, the essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of Santolina rosmarinifolia L., Mentha piperita, Artemisia herba-alba, Ferula communis, F. lutea and Senecio giganteus species have been analyzed by GC and GC/MS.
The essential oil of Santolina rosmarinifolia L. showed the best antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC, Escherichia coli HS, and Enterobacter sp. strains. The essential oil of dry aerial part of Mentha piperita inhibited more strongly the growth of Escherichia coli ATCC and Streptococcus sp. strains.
