Abstract:
Migration constitutes one of the greatest preoccupations of a large number of Algerian
writers. The purpose of our thesis entitled « The theme of migration in the Frenchlanguage Algerian literature: texts and contexts » is to analyze the importance of this theme through the Algerian literature. Migration is recurrently present in the work of Algerians authors of French language, from colonial period, to the 70’s, until the 2000’s.
Our corpus is composed exclusively of novels which have a link with migration and its main categories and types (economic, social, legal or illegal…).
This research is divided into three parts: the first one, concerns migration through its artistic variations in cinema, painting, music, or caricatures.
In the second part, we present the novels of our corpus, those of Mouloud Feraoun, Rachid Boudjedra, Mohammed Dib, Boualem Sansal, Salim Bachi, Roshd Djigouadi, to analyse theme through the selected contexts. Other texts have been analyzed but episodically.
In the last part, we try to identify strategies and processes of writing used by authors, as study migrant’s characters, the space in which they operate, and the choice of titles novels.
We expose other literary devices, such as the use of literary currents, myths and parody. We complete our thesis, by analysing theoretical approaches: the sociological and the Geocriticism theories, the narrative semiotics to study characters, and narratological concepts proposed by Gérard Genette.
