dc.description.abstract Diabetis type 2 is a frequent and severe disease. Its complications constitute a public health problem. It needs drugs, food diet and medical monitoring. Now day, in therapeutically field, in addition to conventional treatment (insulin and oral hypoglycaeming agents) use medicinal plants as complementary treatment as well as treatment in low glycemia. Therefore phytotherapy constitutes a good alternative or at least as a complement to classical drugs. In popular medicine, a lot of plants -among them, the Centaurium erythreae - are used in diabetic treatment. The first part of this work treats literature review on diabetes, phytotherapy and Centaurium erythreae L. The second part consists of an experimental work that contains: - Inquiries on the use of medicinal plants in our regions (east, south-east and Algiers region); 39 species belonging to 24 families are noted. - A chemical experiment of the flowering stems of the plant Erythreae centaurium L. has been done; several products were identified( flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids and tannins...). - An experimental work on normoglycemic rats and rats submitted to hyperglycemia by oral means by overcharge of glucose, by gavage of aqueous and butanolic extract of the Common Centaury. After kinetic study of glycaemia between tB0 Band tB180 Bminutes by glycometery and spectrophotometer shows an important decrease of blood glucose rates. The hypoglycemic action of aqueous and butanolic extract was compared to that obtained rats with hypoglycemic agent (Glibenclamide (DCI) Daonil ® (ND) This shows the existence hypoglycemic action of Common Centaury. - The monitoring of rats, during fifteen days after hyperglycemia shows secondary effects of aquous and butanolic extracts of Common Centaury on liver and kidney rats’.
