Abstract

The appearance of what known as « The Electronic Environment » caused a lot of changes in human life sides where dealing with electronics became an obligation to fulfill its needs. This environment widely affected the roles and functions of university libraries as well as the roles and functions of librarians so that the machine became the most important tool in their work. That's what push us to do this study. This latter aims at knowing the role of university libraries in the development of science under the use of the new technology electronics and if it is widely used by the researchers. The study was applied in JIJEL's university libraries with its researchers and librarians. Trough this study, we try to shed some light on the role of these libraries in the electronic environment and to see the effectiveness of this environment in the various researches as weel as in the development and prosperity of science. In addition to that, we seek to know the importance of these libraries and the ways to keep then in the service of science. As a conclusion, the university libraries play an important role in developing science. More than, it is an obligation ; we can't push these libraries away especially under the electronic environment that invade the field of science. But there must be an equilibrium between these libraries and now a days developments through using electronics in their work, train those librarians to better use this technology and not neglect the teacher's intrests and ambitions.
