Abstract

This stdy deals with subject of open source software documentaries and their applications in the Algerian university libraries, through she ding light on the most important stages of managing the transitional project to these softwares in the Central Library of the University of Basher, which has been chosen as a model to the field study. this study Has addressed to the general concepts about both types of software, closed and open source documentaries, in terms of the design requirements and the standards adopted in purchasing them, through the most important services they provide. The study also discussed the methods of developing software locally to use them .and the licensing agreements. Besides it discusses the policies and plans for the transition to open source software documentaries in the university libraries through the case study of the central library of the university of Basher . as a sample of the Algerian university libraries which apply the results of the study showed that the application of such projects is still in its very beginning and under experiment .it yet achieved has not the required level . this transitional project is an experiment that requires further investigation and encouragement in order to generalize it to include the other Algerian university libraries . The study concluded a set of results that the application of such projects are still in the very beginning, the entry of the experiment has not lived up to the required level, but the experience of transformation calls then stand up and work to develop and encourage those who made it for circulation to the various university libraries in Algeria.
