Abstract

The aim of this study is to deal with the subject related to university library management from two points of view. If the first point of view tends to highlight the importance of management as an efficient instrument in the exploitation of information resources for defined purposes, the second one consists in proving concretely the relation between the problems that face university libraries and the failure of their administrative activity. This study aims at responding to the following question: to what extent is management applied in the university libraries of the Algerian South-East? We have attempted to do our work in a methodic way applying the descriptive approach. Five chapters constitute our research. The first chapter portrays the general frame of the study and develops its methodological aspect. The second chapter tends to clarify the concept of management which is considered at present as the essential engine for any institution. The third chapter defines the university library as an enterprise that has a position which is similar to that of an economic or social enterprise. The fourth chapter explains how management can be applied in university libraries. The fifth and last chapter represents the practical part of the study in which a survey is led upon a target population and through a questionnaire in order to study concretely the situation of university libraries in the South-East of Algeria and to observe to what extent management is applied in these institutions to come out in the end with some results that attempt to respond to our interrogations.
