Abstract:
In this work some results of theoretical analysis on the selection of optimum band gap
semiconductor absorber graded band gaps for application in multijunction solar cells are presented.
A detailed theoretical analysis of graded band-gap multijunction solar cells yields air mass 1.5
energy conversion efficiencies higher than for multijunction conventional cells. The improved
efficiencies are mainly due to built-in electric fields in both layers, caused by band-gap gradations
cells. The adoption of multijunction solar cell with band gap gradient can overcome several
problems inherent in these systems
