Abstract
This work is a modest contribution to knowledge the verbenaceae family through the Vitex genus in particularly Vitex agnus-castus species which is recognized by its pharmalogical properties, it is also used in traditional medicine as to calm the rheumatism pains in south and west south region of the country. This study relates to the phytochemical investigation of the semi p olar phase of the aqueous-alcoholic extracts of the leaves of Vitex agnus- castus species. This contribution led to the isolation of seven products in the pure state, from which, we have established the structure of three in still now: two flavones and one flavonol. 9 5,3'-dihydroxy 3, 6, 7,4'-tetramethoxyflavone (Casticin) 9 5,3’,4’ -trihydroxy 7-methoxyflavone (luteolin7-methyl) 9 5,7,3',4’-tetrahydroxyflavone-7-O- β-D-glucopyranoside (luteolin 7-Oglucoside ) The elucidation of different structures was carried out by using spectroscopic methods, especially UV spectrophotometry, MS spectrometry as well as 1H NMR, 13C NMR experiments.
