<title>Evaluation du potentiel pharmacologique et hépatotoxique du Teucrium polium L.</title>

<description>Evaluation du potentiel pharmacologique et hépatotoxique du Teucrium polium L.

Teucrium polium L. is a medicinal plant widely used in Algeria to treat a variety of human&#13;
pathology.&#13;
An ethnobotanical survey was conducted during the period from June 2011 to December 2012,&#13;
among 269 people who use medicinal plants (villagers and herbalists) through 18 willayas in&#13;
eastern Algeria on the traditional use of Teucrium polium L and ethnobotanical indices were&#13;
calculated.&#13;
The results of the ethnobotanical survey revealed the importance of the practice of&#13;
phytotherapy by the population of the investigated region and helped to contribute to the&#13;
transformation of popular knowledge from oral to written through the establishment of the&#13;
monograph of Teucrium polium L. Moreover dosage and dosage seems to be very poorly&#13;
controlled by our traditional healers which could be dangerous for the health of consumers.&#13;
The evaluation of the acute toxicity of the aqueous extract of Teucrium polium L. after 14&#13;
days of treatment in rats was carried out and the value of the LD50 was estimated by two&#13;
methods of calculation.&#13;
The acute toxicological study estimated the LD 50 of this plant to more than 3000 mg / kg which&#13;
places it in the class 4 of toxicity therefore ""slightly toxic"".&#13;
In the subchronic oral toxicity study, administration of 800 mg / kg, 1600 mg / kg and 2500&#13;
mg / kg / day of the aqueous extract demonstrated that it acts negatively on the growth of the&#13;
treated and treated rats. disrupts some hematological and biochemical parameters related to&#13;
liver function (transaminases), renal in the different lots treated.&#13;
The histological observation of the organs was characterized by the presence of structural&#13;
alterations of the liver and kidney with significant differences (&#119875;&gt; 0.05)

Despite the existence of numerous products used for burns’ treatment, the use of traditional medicine remedies remains a common treatment option.&#13;
Our ethnopharmacological survey among 104 herbalists and traditional healers spread over 47 municipalities belonging to 19 provinces of the country, revealed the richness of Algerian traditional pharmacopoeia with burn treating products. A total of 74 natural products were identified.&#13;
Ranking these products by calculating their Relative Popularity Level (RPL) revealed that the fixed oil extracted from the fruits of mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus L.) is the most used natural product for burn treatment.&#13;
Furthermore, unlike the majority of Mediterranean pharmacopeia, this oil is the most used product of Pistacia lentiscus in Algeria, surpassing the use of leaves, resin and essential oils.&#13;
Our survey concerning the therapeutic uses of this oil revealed its use for 50 various therapeutic indications. Ranking these indications by calculating their Fidelity Level (FL) revealed that the treatment of skin and respiratory problems are the two major indications of Pistacia lentiscus fixed oil in Algeria.&#13;
The healing effect of this oil, used alone or mixed with beeswax (v/v) was evaluated for the treatment of experimental burns in rats. The healing process was evaluated by digital planimetry and histological examination of burned skin samples.&#13;
Mastic fixed oil used alone or in combination with beeswax, showed significantly better results (p˂0,05) than conventional treatment with silver sulfadiazine 1%. This healing effect resulted in an acceleration of wound contraction and a reduction of epithelialization time.&#13;
Histological observations corroborate with the clinical and planimetric findings.&#13;
No Synergistic or antagonistic effects were found between mastic oil and beeswax.&#13;
The in vitro investigation of the antibacterial effect of this oil on four bacterial strains (Staphylococcus aureus ; Enterococcus faecalis ; Escherichia coli ; Pseudomonas aeruginosa) showed no significant antibacterial effect. Hence the need to undertake further studies to identify the mechanisms responsible for the healing effect of this oil and the bioactive compounds behind it.

<title>La paramphistomose gastro‐duodenale des ruminants dans le nord‐est Algerien</title>

Studies on paramphistomosis have been achieved for two consecutive years for the purpose of specifying the prevalence of this trématodosis in cattle in the governorate of Jijel.&#13;
The prevalence of this parasitosis is estimated at 18.5% in 2011 and 17.0 in 2012, with monthly peaks of 32.6% and 28.2% respectively. Our study has shown that this parasitosis is more significant in the coastal governorates such as Jijel, (17.6%), compared with the inland ones (Constantine and Sétif with respectively 5.05% and 2.70%). When there is strong prevalence, low parasitic loads have been recorded. This may be explained by the rarefaction of snails habitats, outside the periods of high pluviometry, but no study has been undertaken in this matter.&#13;
Experimental infestations carried out on 20 sheep with Paramphostomum daubneyi have shown that only those receiving 1000 métacercarias have shown haematological modifications (light anaemia, polycythemia and eosinophilia), between the 9th and 12th postinfestation. &#13;
Malacological investigations in the governorate of Jijel in 2010 have shown that molluscs, intermediary hosts, are infested during all year with a higher prevalence during the humid period. Experimental infestations on 3 species of Lymneidas by P.daubneyi have shown that Lymnea viatrix is the most apt to produce métacercarias inside a laboratory, compared to both Galba truncatula and Lymnea neotropica&#13;
The identification of the paramphistomes species using molecular tools has confirmed the existence of two species which are P. daubneyi and P. microbothrium, in the various governorates of the Eastern Algeria (Jijel, Tarf, Constantine and Sétif).
